(February 2012) Zwick’s makroXtens® is a high-accuracy contact extensometer for stand-alone solutions and fully automatic testing systems, having been specially developed for tensile, compression, flexure and cyclic tests on metals, plastics, composites and other materials.
(February 2012) Statoil is an international energy company with 35 year's experience of oil and gas production on the Norwegian continental shelf. Although the company has a worldwide presence, Statoil's main activities are located in Norway, with corporate premises in both Stavanger and Oslo.
(February 2012) The Asian Forum for Materials Testing (AFMT) will be taking place in Shanghai this year, from 23 - 24 April. AFMT is the Asian equivalent of testXpo, the international testing technology forum hosted for over 20 years by Zwick in Ulm, Germany. Zwick’s Chinese partner will be organizing the fair, at which a total of around 1,000 customers from all over Asia are expected.
(February 2012) The Johannes Kepler University (JKU) at Linz, Austria, has been providing courses in plastics technology in the Science Park on the JKU campus since 2009. Home to the biggest plastics industry in Austria, Linz is a perfect location for these studies.
(January 2012) Technological development marches on. Now that electronics and data processing are also an integral part of mechanical engineering, progress today is primarily concerned with ever faster processing of increasingly large amounts of data. Examples of such advances at Zwick are to be found in new measurement and control electronics, new sensors and their associated interfaces. These enable even more precise control of testing machines which, when combined with greater test data density, opens up completely new areas of application.
(January 2012) From 2012 the new Zwick testControl II measurement and control electronics are also available as the ‘RetroLine tC II’ modernization package. Used in combination with drive replacement, modification of the existing sensor system and new testing software, the package allows cost-effective updating of older testing machines to state-of-the-art condition. Over the last twenty years Zwick has modernized more than 3,000 testing machines by over forty different manufacturers by the application of digital measurement and control electronics.
(December 2011) The large number of test applications in the paper industry means that quality assurance requires many widely varying tests. To enable all results to be evaluated together, Kolb Wellpappe employs a specially produced customized database.
(November 2011) More and more tests require short specimens or short clamping lengths to be gripped and held securely in standard specimen grips. Innovative hydraulic grips developed by Zwick especially for these applications are increasingly being used for quality assurance testing in the automotive industry.
(November 2011) The stand-out feature of this Zwick testing system is its mobility. The equipment is housed in two containers: the horizontal tensile testing machine in one and the operating station plus the power packs required for operation in the other, each in separate compartments. This flexible solution enables the Italian Navy to erect the unit, used to test ropes, chains and other fastening equipment required for ships, at different locations and put it into operation immediately. The separation of the testing system into two containers also ensures...
(November 2011) Support mats are functional components of exhaust systems, their purpose being to provide a reliable mounting for the catalyst or diesel particle filter under high thermal loads and expansion, while providing a secure seal to prevent exhaust gases bypassing the catalyst.
